Firefighters entered the burning home through the front door Saturday night to find two people and a dog dead inside. Sadly, one of the two died on Sunday morning, the fire service said.

Units from the Poudre Fire Authority were dispatched at 6:50 p.m. in the 4000 block of South Taft Hill Road, one block north of Harmony Road. According to firefighters, they arrived at the scene four minutes later and saw smoke coming out of all the windows of the house. A corner of the house caught fire.

The two injured patients were immediately evacuated from the house, treated on the spot by a private physician and taken to hospital.

The PFA said in a press release on Sunday that the fire was not under control at 7:12 p.m. The home sustained extensive damage to the garage and kitchen, and the rest of the structure sustained extensive smoke damage.

Further investigation revealed that the fire started in the garage. It started with smoking materials combined with the use of oxygen, the PFA said.
